Addressing Your Wedding Invitations

As wedding planners and stationery designers we are often asked how to address wedding invitations and what formalities should be used. To help guide you through this process we have teamed up with Jane Dolan, owner of Southern Calligraphy , to address some of these frequently asked questions.  As you will see there are many ways to address your invitations, but ultimately it is the bride’s choice to make the invites as formal or as informal as possible.

1.    If I choose the inner/outer envelope combination, what do I put on the outer envelope and what do I put on the inner envelope?

The outer envelope should be addressed to the heads of the household.  The inner envelope should clearly state exactly who within that household is invited:

Outer: Mr. and Mrs. James Hamilton

Inner: Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton (parents)

Amanda, Andrew and John (Children Names)

2.    Do I put “and guest” or “and Family” on the outer envelope?

If you are inviting someone with children or a plus-one it is more personal to include the name/names on the envelope rather than “and guest” or “and family”.  However, if you do not know the name of your invited guest 'plus one' you may include "and guest" on the inner envelope. When listing children, list the names (first name only, no last names here) below the parents names and start with the oldest child first. *See inner and outer envelope photo for example.

3.    Do I have to include middle names on my addresses?

It is not necessary to include middle names on the addresses, but if you prefer to do so write out the name and do not abbreviate to a middle initial. In general you can look at the addressing like this:

Least formal:  first and last name only(no title)

More formal: title + first and last name

Most formal: title + first, middle and last name

4.    Do I need to spell out the states?

Yes!  All wording on your envelopes should be spelled out, not abbreviated.  Spell out all street names, post office box, apartment and states.  The exceptions are titles of names such as Mr and Mrs, Dr, Jr, Sr, and the one state exception is Washington, DC which can be written as DC as opposed to District of Columbia.

*Another frequently overlooked recommendation is that of writing out numbers twenty and below.

You will find a lot of information on the Internet that is not correct regarding proper envelope addressing. Jenna Laine Weddings and Southern Calligraphy are a reliable go-to source of choice for the most accurate and proper etiquette regarding addressing your envelopes.  Please feel free to contact Jenna Laine Weddings or Southern Calligraphy if you have any questions addressing your guests!

Welcome to Our Wedding!

One of the services we offer at Jenna Laine Weddings is custom welcome boxes. Below are a few boxes we have done over the past few months. As you will see, you can create a box as elaborate or as simple as you want. Don't forget your guest book!

In the last few months leading up to every wedding we get asked what should we use for our guest book? Its the dreaded wedding accessory that most clients don't seem to care much about. Every now and then we have clients who will make a unique wall installation that all the guest sign, but for the most part brides are stumped. They don't mind a book, but they don't want it to be boring, so we found a way to fix that!

We carry a line of guest books that can be customized to fit your wedding or home décor. We usually tell brides not to coordinate with their wedding, but to pick something that coordinates with their home. We have many different cover options; leather, satin, silk, velvet, and linen and several different styles of books. Each book can be customized with your crest, logo, names, and wedding date. Below are a few examples that we have created over the past few years.

Books from top to bottom:

  • Linen Artisan Book with Tea Rose Ribbon and a custom logo (logo Design by Victoria Austin Designs)
  • Champagne Velvet Artisan Book with Blossom Satin Ribbon (inside are vintage hand torn pages)
  • Classic Guest Book in Taupe Satin with Silver Foil Crest & a white feather pen (inside traditional lined pages)
  • Silk Dupioni Bow Book with Natural Linen cover and pearl ribbon with gold foil writting
  • Vow book with White Silk cover and bisque ribbon with gold foil writting (inside are vintage hand torn pages)

In 2016 we made the decision to start carrying retail products in our studio making it easier for brides to find those last minute things without having to search the internet or visit a million different stores. We have Rifle Paper Company 'Will you be my Bridesmaid" cards, Kara Anne Paper stationery and "Will you be my Bridesmaids Cards", toasting flutes, cake knives and servers, beautiful hand made garters and guest books. Within the last year, one of our brides introduced us to her company and these fun products pictured below.

Bride & Bridesmaid Champagne Flutes- These flutes are perfect for asking your bridesmaids to be in your wedding party, accompanied by champagne bottle of course or you can use them while getting ready on your wedding day. We can also have your bridesmaids initials put on the flutes or order them in sets of four to make a great hostess gift. Stemless wine glasses also available.
Custom Jewelry Dishes- there are many ways to personalize these ring dishes by selecting up to two colors and choosing one of many monogram styles.
Cheers champagne flutes - perfect for getting ready drinks on your wedding day!
Disco Ball Cups- these  cups are great for bachelorette parties!

To place an order please call us at 251-929-0485 or email us at info@jennalaineweddings.com. Some custom items take a few weeks to get in, but most things are available right in our store, located at 409-A North Section Street, Fairhope Al.

Come see us soon!

It's been just under five years since I, Jenna Laine Rachal, started this little business and I am thrilled to see how its grown and excited to reach 100 weddings along side these fabulous ladies pictured above.

My very first wedding in Fairhope, Alabama was in November of 2012. I had just moved home from New York City a few months earlier with hopes of a creating a successful wedding planning business and was very nervous and excited to be helping Elisabeth and William Hays with their special day. The weekend couldn't have gone better and I thank both Elisabeth and William for placing so much trust in me.

Here's a sweet shot from Posh Images of Mr. and Mrs. Hays, who have since then added a precious little girl to their family.

Since the Hayes wedding, four and a half years ago, we have added new members to our team, began selling custom stationery in the store, and also offer retail items, such as custom jewelry dishes, champagne flutes, custom guest books, garters, stationery sets, and more.

We celebrated our 100th wedding on February 25th, with the marriage of my dear friend Meg Perkins and Brian Wittendorfer. We actually pulled triple duty at this wedding. We were planners, bridesmaids and mine and Alexs daughters were flower girls. It was one of our most exciting weddings and probably the most stressful. Getting two two year olds down the aisle is no easy task, but it all went off without a hitch and it was fun having our entire team at the wedding to celebrate this milestone.

Here's an image from Meg and Brian's special day;

It has been a joy to work with so many brides, grooms and their families over the past four and half years. We have developed many friendships with our brides and with our vendors and we thank both for all the trust they put in Jenna Laine Weddings. I also owe a BIG thank you to my family for their support and letting me work so many long and late hours and most weekends. And to my amazing team, y'all are the best group of creative, kind and smart women and without you Jenna Laine Weddings would not be where it is today! We are looking forward to a busy 2017 and many more milestones ahead! Thank you for your continued support!

Thank you for a Great Spring & Summer

Before we launch into our fall and winter wedding season we wanted to take a second to say thank you to all of our wonderful brides and grooms from this past spring and summer 2016 season. We were busier than ever, with over thirty weddings all over Gulf Coast and enjoyed each and every one. We feel so blessed to be able to do this job and we have met so many wonderful people along the way. We take such pride and joy in witnessing two people as they exchange vows and make such a special commitment to one another. We wish all of our couples a long and happy life together as husband and wife.

Thank you for trusting us with one of the most special days of your lives. We hope we were able to create your dream weddings and many cherished memories. - Jenna ,Courtney, Alex

Rebranding with the Best

As you all know by now, we have rebranded the business as Jenna Laine Weddings, which required a lot of work and we could not have done it without the help of some very talented people. For todays blog post, I wanted to take a minute to thank the businesses and individuals who helped to rebrand us and reprint our stationery, signs, business cards, and so much more!

First, lets start with Hadley Binion Designs. She is was the brains behind the new logo and our awesome new brand! We started with a brainstorming meeting, followed by a preview meeting and then by our third meeting she had completed the logo and the branding board and it was a perfect representation of our business and the image we want to convey to our clients. It took very little effort on our part, which was great, due to our busy schedule. From there, Hadley designed our fabulous business cards, stationery, and social media post (those will be up on our Instagram and Facebook soon). She also added a boarder to our wedding planning information package. Here are some photos of Hadley's amazing work! Thank you Hadley!

Amanda Comer at 5A Multi Media created our new website. While our previous  website did a great job for us over the past four years, we thought that along with our new brand, we should start from scratch and create something fresh and new that coordinated with our new brand. Amanda took all of our 'wants' and 'must haves' and designed out dream site! We feel that this new site has a clean and professional look and is easy to navigate. Website building is not something we claim to be good at, so having Amanda there to  lead the way was a huge help. She even took the time to sit down with us to explain how to update photos, blog post and content so we can now manage the site on our own, but is sure is nice to know that Amanda is just a call away should we get stuck!

Jubilee Print Design is responsible for our gorgeous signage. We sent Judd our new logo and branding board and he did the rest and within a week or two the signs were up. We now have a door logo, hanging building sign and a road sign. You can see us coming and going as you drive down North Section Street.

Weezie B Designs has helped us with our marketing materials. They did new tanks and t-shirts, which you can purchase in the store, notepads for new client gifts, new name tags for our staff, tags for our merchandise, gold JL stickers and a car magnet. All the ladies of Weezie B Design were wonderful to work with and were able to get us all of our products within just a few weeks. We sent them the new logo and branding board and they came up with the rest!  Thank you Weezie B Designs!

We want to extend a HUGE thank you out to all of these vendors who helped us re launch our company. Jenna Laine Weddings is now looking better than ever thanks to you!

Best Wishes,

Jenna Laine Weddings

Meet our Team

Jenna Laine Weddings has been in business since November of 2012, and time has really flown by. In the beginning, Jenna operated the business by herself, but as Jenna Laine Weddings began working on more and more events, sometimes multiple events in the same weekend, Jenna added talented associates to her team. So, for todays post we want to introduce you to our awesome event planners and show off our new head shots taken by Michelle Taulbee Photography

Jenna Laine Rachal

Jenna Laine Rachal is owner and founder of Jenna Laine Weddings. She started in the wedding industry in 2008 as assistant to the Director of Events at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art in Auburn. She worked there until graduating from Auburn University in 2011. After graduation Jenna moved to New York to further her career in event planning. While in New York, Jenna worked for several highly esteemed companies in the event industry and took courses at the Fashion Institute in Wedding Coordination. In 2012, Jenna received a call from her first client in Fairhope wanting help coordinating her wedding, which would take place in November of 2012. Jenna took this opportunity to move back to her hometown of Fairhope and open her very own company, which today helps more than thirty brides every year with designing and coordinating the wedding of their dreams. Jenna loves the event planning business and enjoys living in Fairhope with her husband, Joshua, and little girl, Madison (Maddie).

Alex Watkins

Alex Watkins has been a member of the Jenna Laine Weddings team since the fall of 2014. Alex grew up in Daphne, Alabama and went to Bayside Academy, where she and Jenna became friends. After graduating from Bayside, Alex moved to Tuscaloosa and attended the University of Alabama. Alex majored in marketing and graduated in 2011. Upon graduation Alex moved back to Daphne and began working as the Marketing and Events Director at Steelwood Country Club. While working at Steelwood, Alex grew to love weddings and events of all kind and developed a close relationship with some of the areas top vendors. After giving birth to her daughter, Landry, in 2015 Alex decided to leave Steelwood in order to have a little more time at home, however she still wanted to be a part of creating gorgeous and memorable events, which is why she continued to work at Jenna Laine Weddings part time. Alex is now an Event Producer at Jenna Laine Weddings and loves bringing a brides vision to life on their wedding day! When she isn't working, you can find Alex relaxing with her daughter Landry and husband Jordan.

Courtney Araszkiewicz

Courtney joined the Jenna Laine Weddings team in January 2016 as the office manager and event assistant. Courtney grew up in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from St. Pauls Episcopal in 2010 and attended the University of Alabama. Courtney graduated in 2014 with a degree in Communications and moved to Virginia. After living in Virginia for a little over a year Courtney moved back to Mobile and began working at Jenna Laine Weddings. Courtney's friendly personality and organization skills is what keeps the office running efficiently. If you call or swing by the office you will be greeted by Courtney's chipper voice and smiling face! Courtney loves being a part of every event we do here at Jenna Laine Weddings and is looking forward to moving up to Event Producer within the coming year.

Thank you to Michelle Taulbee Photography for a fun afternoon and thank you to Gari Lynn for the makeup!

Best Wishes,

The Jenna Laine Weddings Team
